To those who feel lost, misunderstood, or not enough…

As a young person, I was often lost in class. I managed, but I struggled to keep up because I had trouble focusing on what was going on. Not because I was stupid, but because every little detail of the room caught my attention. Like the sounds of my classmates’ voices around me telling the same annoying jokes. Or the way the girl sitting in front of me restyled her hair over and over again. The teacher’s quotes posted up on the wall, the weird details of the floor tile - every little thing distracted me. But I found those things so much interesting, way more interesting than what was being discussed in class. I was insecure about it. I had low confidence. I had no backbone. Others would laugh and say I’m slow or that I was off in my own world. I guess I was. But my world felt safer. It was much more fun to be in.

It now seems fitting for me to be an artist because I see, hear, feel, smell, and taste everything. I catch every unimportant detail of the world. I take it all in and hold onto it for no reason. That’s what artists do. We see things no one else cares about and we make a big deal about it. Because to me, that makes life more interesting. 

So… I am here as a voice for those who feel misunderstood, lost, or inadequate - like I always have. I am making art for you! You don’t fit into a label and you live for passion, not for survival or safety. You are okay with having a little bit of chaos in your life because in chaos, beauty is created! Any work of art that is made or dream that is manifested has a messy process! You choose to live your life the way you want, not based on the norms of our society. You are creating your own life and happiness! I look forward to making art that represents you and makes you feel seen. I look forward to connecting with you and spreading more love around this world together!
